In The Garden July 1999

      July 18, 1999
      Sunday Afternoon
      High Today: 91 degrees
Mostly sunny but a bit hazy in the late afternoon

I haven't done a thing in the yard all weekend. I'm just really tired for some reason but I have been checking stuff out outside. AND I've been getting this site up and running so that meant being inside.

I was cleaning off the back steps and noticed about a billion Japanese Beetles doing the mating thing on my rose bush 'Mme. Isaac Pereire'. So I reached over with the broom and knocked them all off. They have been feasting on it quite extensively you can tell from all the lacy rose leaves out there. Fortunately, with it being a Bourbon Rose, it is quite resilient and won't suffer a moment from the snacking beetles.

It has been a few hours now and there are about 6 of them back on the rose.

        Stupid things.

They have been after my Basil also and it is showing major damage. There isn't anything I can do for that. Ah well. They won't be around forever.

An awesome place for the Rosarian. Search by Gardens, Name, Color, Class....excellent site.

My Crape Myrtles are almost done blooming. I need to dead-head them. They say if you do that they will re-bloom. We'll see if that is true. Since all of this comes from only sticking my head out the back door...that is about all I have to say today. I could go into a few other things but I am tired and will take it up another time.
