Thursday

Well. It has been a very busy last few days.

Yesterday, Christmas Eve, we had a chance to go down and I finally got to meet Kevin's son. He's 17 and Kevin and he have had a difficult relationship and hadn't seen each other in years.

It was really tense at first but everyone eased up and started laughing and talking, normally, and we were there for 2 hours. I don't think I could have managed a better gift for Kevin than that. His son and I have been talking quite a bit through myspace and I've also been talking a lot to his mom.

And Kevin is a very different man now than he was 9 years ago when he last saw him. I know that being around Mikey and being a parent figure to Erica and dealing with me, Kevin has changed tremendously, for the better.

Whatever or however, I'm just so happy for him. He's been waiting a long time for him to say, "yeah, I'd like to see you again."

.....

Our trip down to Wilmington was a long ass haul as always. God. That drive down I40 is so FREAKING BORING. Ugh. 2 hours.

But we made it.

However, my sister was running late, my mom is in the process of moving from the first floor to the third floor and half her stuff was downstairs and the other half was upstairs and trying to orchestrate a huge holiday meal was just .... wow. She did not think through the whole thing. I had to jump in and get things going or we wouldn't have eaten until MIDNIGHT.

The gifts we gave, photos that Kevin had taken of Erica on the beach at Topsail, went over so much better than expected. I took a lot of time, Kevin with me, to find just the right frame for the different photos. They turned out just beautifully and they match everything my Mom has now.

It was chaotic as anything though. Midway through trying to get all the food together and I didn't even have a LID for a pot, I declared that Kevin and I would be hosting Christmas next year. Oy VEY.

This was right before I kicked everyone OUT of the kitchen.

YEEESSSSSSSS! The food is finally ready and served!

Christmas Chaos

Me explaining the gift from all of the kids and grandkids: a digital photo frame.

My sister loved her gift. It's the photo that Kevin took of Erica at Topsail Beach back in March of 2008 when we went to see Mary. It's an 8x10. She wanted it as soon as she saw them posted on myspace. She loved it. :)

Of course, a trip to Wilmington doesn't happen without a visit to the beach.

Diligently trying not to fall on my face....

Merry Christmas from NC!!!!
