December 29, 2008 Thank you for whomever it was that nominated the letter I wrote to Alix as one of the Best of Holidailies. I write what I write when it's on my mind but I am always sincerely happy and mystified when something I do write, resonates with the people who I consider my peers. Thank you. :) .... I spent the mid part of the day helping Kevin work on that attic closet. I'm getting more comfortable using the saws and all that stuff but even with a right angle line planer thing, chalk lines, and a tape measure, one sad fact remains: I can't measure nor cut a neat straight line if my life depended on it. Kevin's measurement: Yes, that's 82 and 3/16th" Renee's measurements: Yes, that's 82" plus a little bit more. Maybe one day I'll be able to cut and measure for REALS. ..... Mikey stopped by today to visit a few minutes. Kevin thinks that he wants to move back in. I don't think that's the case. He really didn't LIKE living with us because he can't just do as he pleases when it's a shared laundry/kitchen setting. He's skating the ragged edge of disaster of brokeness but the kids got to learn how to manage his money. BILLS first. A little in the savings. And THEN you buy stuff. ..... I have finally, finally, FINALLY found a beer that I like the taste of. It's called Red Oak and they make it right here in Raleigh and Greensboro. Downside: at this time it's only available in kegs. I had called The Fresh Market (oh my god i love that place so much i wish i was rich...i'd go every day) to see if they carried it and the very extremely helpful David got my name and number and called to find out. ON A SUNDAY at that. That dude deserves a tip! They said they are planning on selling it in bottles by this time next year. So, if you don't like beer and you go to a restaurant, ask if they carry Red Oak. SO very good.
