Pittsburgh was not what I expected.
Sadly, the old reputation of a smoky and grim steel town still lived in
my head. Thankfully, those images have been replaced with much better and
more realistic pictures. I am a native Pennsylvanian so I am doubly glad
of this.
I took a little bit of time and
walked around on Saturday to clear my head and get a handle on a few things.
All the people, the situation, everything was overwhelming and a lot of
emotions were running high at that time. I didn't want to wander too far
afield since I couldn't seem to get my bearings so these pictures were taken
within a 1 or 2 block radius. (but don't quote me on that. it was close
to the hotel)
What a cool looking shot this turned
out to be. All dreary and gothic like.
This is a far off shot of the same
building as the top pic and the one right after this. I think this picture
shows just how pretty downtown Pittsburgh was. If you can't see it, lean
really close and squint hard.
I seem to have been drawn to this
particular building time after time. I think it was in part that there was
an actual, live tree (see the pic and the word 'tree') right on top of that
building. You know it must suffer in the winter time with all the snow and
ice and wind but there it is. Just growing its little tree butt off.
I have no idea what the building
is or WHAT IN THE HELL that white shadow thing is.
Don't make a mistake of walking
against the traffic lights. Because they are waiting for you.
It was slightly odd to be able
to see just that one patch of sky down at the end of the street unless you
craned your head all the way back and looked like a moron but unless you
did that you weren't seeing any sky. I get the feeling that the majority
of the people don't care too much about seeing it. I miss the mountains
and the rugged beauty but I think I've come to love my Carolina blue skies
that stretch from here to the ocean.
