Wow. It's been a long time since I've updated this.

Album purchased today: American Idiot by Green Day.

One of the most interesting albums to be released in the past year. It tells a story and I'm a sucker for those kind of albums (see Radio KAOS).

I've also been infatuated with Billie Joe Armstrong since Longview (Dookie, 1994). Hell, one of the two songs I've ever karaoked was Minority (Warning, 2000) (thank you John Scalzi for dueting with me on that, I'll never forget it!).

Track List:

1. American Idiot: Erica absolutely LOVES this song.

2. Jesus of Suburbia: Excellent set of different stories in one song. Dearly Beloved stands out but Part 5 of this song City of the Damned brings goosebumps out:

To live and not to breathe
Is to die In tragedy
To run, to run away
To find what you believe
And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
I lost my faith to this
This town that don't exist

3. Holiday: This is probably my favorite song off this album. When it first starts out and then that drum beat kicks in, that's hot. I don't know why I love it like I do but damn it's awesome. It feels like where I stand in my own politics.

I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies
This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

4. Boulevard of Broken Dreams

This song is most definitely the anthem of the lonely:

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

5. Are We The Waiting:

Love this song too. It reminds me a lot of Youth of the Nation by POD. Only because of the We Are/Are We thing.

And screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting
And screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting
- Green Day

We are, We are, the youth of the nation - P.O.D.

Both songs are driven by a strong drum beat as well.

6. St. Jimmy
7. Give Me Novacaine
8. She's A Rebel
9. Extraordinary Girl
10. Letterbomb
11. Wake Me Up When September Ends: I love this one too.
12. Homecoming
13. Whatsername

Anyway, if you've been wavering on getting the album, don't. It's excellent.

The 47th Grammy Awards will be on tomorrow evening at 8 PM. I have a lot of favorites that are nominated but I hope that Green Day takes every category they've been nominated in.

I have a bad feeling that Kayne West or Usher will take the Album of the Year though. Hip Hop is so big with the younger crowd right now (for the past few years really).

I'd like to see Maroon5 win for Best New Artist. I love those guys.

Gwen Stefani needs to win for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

I'm conflicted for this category though: Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

Up for nomination are 3 of my favorites:

My Immortal by Evanescence, She Will Be Loved
Maroon5 and It's My Life by No Doubt

It's My Life is a redo of an old song but they did such a good job of it, it's a million times better than the original.

My Immortal is pretty damn impressive as well though for Best Pop Performance. I'd say my real contest would be to pick between those two.

Best Rap Solo Performance needs to go to Eminem. I know he's not exactly politically correct but the boy is super talented.

Best Duo Rap Performance will probably go to Snoop Dogg and Pharrell.

I don't listen to Country anymore so I don't have an opinion on any of that.

I can't believe that Prince is nominated in quite a few categories.

You can check out the full nominee list here.

I've been listening to some different things lately like

Bruce Willis doing Swing On A Star. Some Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday.

Vanessa Carlton's new album Harmonium. I can really hear the influence of Stephen Jenkins from Third Eye Blind in some of her songs. It's a pretty solid album though. Favorites off that are Afterglow, White Houses and Who's To Say.

Figured You Out by Nickelback

"I like your pants around your feet and I like the dirt that's on your knees, I like the way you say please when you're looking up at me."

I don't know whether that lyric turns me on or repulses me.
