1-15-2003 Believe - ( 2002 ) 1-24-2003 Lose Yourself I'd like to hear this song running to promote presedential speeches. Or for any politician. You know, the Godsmack song was used to promote the Navy. 1-24-2003 This mix was a long time getting finished. I've been working on these liner notes for a year now. The list sort of fell apart at the end, which is when mine should have been sent out. The people involved will just now, in the next few weeks, be receiving this mix. It's one that I listen to still. Bother by Stone Sour Why I Chose This Song: I was really turned on to this song by a single phrase after hearing on the radio one night. I was on my way back from the McDonald's where I had gone to get a caramel sundae. "but once i hold on, i won't let go until it bleeds." Yes, that describes so much of my personality.
Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead Why I Chose This Song: I'm surrounded by Fake Plastic Trees.
I Am The Highway by Audioslave Why I Chose This Song: I want to be the highway....going and going and rolling through the world, always going somewhere better.
Drift and Die by Puddle of Mudd Why I Chose This Song: It's what I feel like I'm doing sometimes....just drifting until I die.
Prayer by Disturbed Why I Chose This Song: For reasons that are unclear to me but the song resonates in my heart. Living just isn't hard enough
Still Remains by Stone Temple Pilots Why I Chose This Song: My favorite song by STP
Sunburn by Fuel Why I Chose This Song:
Acoustic #3 by Goo Goo Dolls Why I Chose This Song: Reminds me of my whole life up until I met Stuart.
Why I Chose This Song: When you're all in pain And you feel the rain come down Oh it's all right When you find your way Then you see it disappear Oh it's all right Though your garden's grey I know all your graces Someday will flower Oh in the sweet sunshower. This song is not on an album by Cornell but is from the movie Great Expectations. You'll have to get the soundtrack.
Epiphany by Staind Why I Chose This Song: Because even though I'm generally optimistic, I seem to always have this huge river of sad that lives right under it. And this song pulls out the little girl that wishes she had someone to make it all better.
Thirty-Three by The Smashing Pumpkins Why I Chose This Song: Finding something perfect, loving it beyond all reason yet still having to turn your back on it and walk on. The music is some of the most haunting and dreamy sounding I've come across. The music coupled with the words and how I perceive the song, is heartbreaking. Especially the line: "the blasphemy in my old jangly walk." Meaning, it used to be all right and then you realize what shit everything really is but you just have to keep going but never as innocent as you used to be.
Don't Follow by Alice In Chains Why I Chose This Song: I chose this particular song first because the acoustic guitar and the music is incredible. The words make wonderful sense to me, "Say Goodbye, Don't Follow" and how the song was written so completely in order. Build, Ascend, Crest, Descend, Finish. Layne Staley was such a talented musician, it broke my heart when he was found dead of a drug overdose last spring. Alice In Chains had already stopped playing together by that time so it's been quite awhile since they had even put out anything new. It's very fortunate for those of us that love the band that they were so prolific while they were together. Alice In Chains is probably best known for their two songs that got the most play on the radio: "Man In The Box" and "Rooster". Layne Staley was also involved in another group besides Alice In Chains, Mad Season. This band also had one heavily played hit that is incredible: "River of Deceit".
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd Why I Chose This Song: Because Pink Floyd calms me. No kidding. It was a hard decision to choose between this one So, so you think you can tell, Heaven from Hell blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail, a smile from a veil. Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
Yellow Ledbetter (Acoustic & Live) by Pearl Jam Why I Chose This Song: "Can you see them? Out on the porch but they don't wave. I see them...."
Goodbye Says It All by Blackhawk Why I Chose This Song: This is it, travel down the River of Sad and you get to the end. -The End- 1-24-03 Santa Monica by Everclear This group is still as good as they ever were. This song makes me think about the time when Stuart and I had just moved in together.
