p.m. Thursday Evening
She scared the hell out of me last night. She was perfectly content all evening. She fell asleep at about 9 p.m. but was back up at about 10:15, right when Stuart and I lay down to go to sleep. Typical. Well at least I hadn't fallen asleep yet. To sleep just a few minutes, only to be ripped from the bed...that's hell. So we get up and I tell Stuart to go on to sleep. Everything is everything until she lets out this piercing scream, drawing her knees to her chest and just writhing in my arms. HOLY SHIT. Then she starts choking....it looked like on her own saliva. The screaming cries and the evident pain she was in really scared the shit out of me. I hightailed it into the bedroom and jerked Stuart out of a sound sleep. I didn't know what to do. I debated on emailing Mary right quick but decided to try something. Obviously, it was gas or intestinal cramps that were causing the pain. So. While holding a screaming baby, I hunted down a piece of peppermint candy. Ended up finding a candy cane instead. Fine. That will work. Grabbed some of her sterilized water, broke a bit of the candy into it and nuked it for about 30 seconds. Then I diluted that with about another 2 oz of water. She wouldn't drink it at first but finally she did and about 10 minutes later, she stopped hurting enough to hold still and just sort of whimper in my arms a bit. She was fine about 10 more minutes later. Please don't let her get colic. I won't be able to stand it. The utter helplessness you feel is so undescribable. To know she's hurting and not being able to stop it. I'm trying the more orthodox approach tonight. I had Stuart go get some Infant Gas Relief Drops. Also known as Mylicon. The baby blues have also hit with a vengenance this evening. I have very little to say right now. Good thing I brought some pictures along.
