Dive Time: a new diver's experiences

3-1-07:

I've been back from my last trip to Alexander and have barely had time to even look at the pictures I've taken let alone get my thoughts collected well enough to deposit them here. So, pardon the chaos.

I used a different camera this time than the one I'd used previously, a SeaLife 200 (i think that's what it is) AND the place was packed with divers and I was more focused on the specialty check offs I was working on and I really wasn't paying much attention to the underwater creatures that stuck around even with the people around. Michael and Larry saw one of the alligators though, from about 10 feet or so away. It was the little one (5'). Me? Of course I haven't seen it yet. EVERYONE but me has at this point.

So my specialty that was freaking me out was doing drysuit. Again, I am really glad that we did the course in Alexander Springs instead of attempting it up at Fantasy Lake (in Rolesville, NC) because at least I didn't have the added mental stress of knowing the water was frigid.

First: Non underwater photos:

Just a rock wall in the beach area. Of course, you don't see the sign to the left that says NO ACCESS TO PUBLIC, EMPLOYEES ONLY. But I love the rock wall.

Probably one of my favorite photos of all time. I forgot to turn it from sea to land mode and it fuzzed the edges in a strange way on the trees but I just love it. It's a staircase in the picnic area over at the edge of the wooded area.

One of the best things about camping: a campfire!!

Raccoon footprints. They were looking for their monthly serving of our Gorp! So cute!

A sign on the trail.

Now for the underwater photos:

Predive checks.

Lovely self photo. My mask looks way too big for my face but I love how it fits.

I just love being underwater, seeing how things are shaped and the colors and just, everything. So cool. Who knew plant gunk was cool?

PRETTY BUBBLES!!!! Underwater! So cool!

Love the lack of expression Renee.

We had one lady who had a bad experience with an earlier dive instructor while in Australia complete her check off stuff for basic open water and it was wonderful seeing how happy she was when she finished when she had been so apprehensive prior to doing the stuff. I think it took a lot of courage on her part to even try again after what she'd already experienced.
