Written 7-1-07: I have at least 40 dives at this point but I didn't get the info for two of the dives I did with Michael a few months ago so I'm not counting those. No big deal. So, according to my actual dive log, I'm up to 38 dives. :) Second night dive on 6-29-07. It was supposed to be a full moon but there was too much cloud cover for any illumination from that. It was a beautiful night. Not too cool, not too hot. Went in with a drysuit, of course. The thermocline that begins at 35-40' kicks MY BUTT at 57 degrees. Did a beach entry and went out to the 60' area. I ended up getting my tank valve tangled AGAIN in some line. It's happened so many times now that it's not even a big deal anymore. I just stop, reach back, wiggle around and figure out exactly where I'm caught. Good training. :) From 60' to the plane, then off to the rock crusher. Went down into the crusher a bit between the girders, Kevin decided to kill his light after breaking up a glow stick (so pretty!!!) and then dropped down some more. I'm not comfortable enough with the rock crusher to go into with no lights so I went up a few feet, enjoyed the pretty green stars in the water and after a few minutes, he came on up and we continued on. Then it was back to the eastern wall, about, oh, 80' or so from the beach. Just sort of over at the wall. Checking the depth in one area. When we surfaced, it was so nice out that I just wanted to float along in the water and look at the sky. I took my hood and mask off, put them on my arm so they wouldn't get lost, inflated my BC and just lazed around kicking and enjoying the quiet and the water. 47 minute dive, max depth 61, temp at 61 was 57degrees, started with 3200, ended with 1100. Still not smoking!!!!! I hope to see at least a little improvement in my gas consumption sometime here. THEN!!!! DIVE #38 I actually took the afternoon off from working. I know, crazy crazy but it was an absolutely gorgeous day for diving, it wasn't extremely busy and I just couldn't stand it! So, I actually got to dive in DAYLIGHT! Kevin wanted to use the scooters so I got over my trepidation and agreed to give it a whirl. I haven't used one before and wasn't sure if I'd even like it but oh MAN!!! That was a blast. I loved it. I can see why a lot of people like them although I wouldn't want to use them all the time. We used the blue Aquascout Scooters and they are great scooters. For this dive we entered at back entry point. Saw the little skiff boat out there, the platform, the glass bottom boat out there and then took off over to the NE-E portion of the wall that has an indentation in the side of the wall (about 15 or 20' depth I think. Not sure on that.) that goes in about 15-18' or so into the wall. It was another very good dive for me. My buoyancy wasn't affected at all with the scooter. |
